CHERRY SQUARES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. baking powder
4 c. flour
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Add milk and eggs. Mix. Stir in dry ingredients. Place half of dough in a large cookie sheet (pat in to fit pan). Roll other half on a piece of waxed paper (oblong to fit on top of filling).

Fill cookie sheet with 2 cans of cherry pie filling. Flip the dough on the wax paper over filling. Remove wax paper and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Make a powdered sugar icing and spread on top. Cut into squares.
