5/8 c. shortening (half butter for flavor)
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 lg. eggs
2 3/4 c. sifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powdertsp. salt
1 1/4 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla (or almond) flavoring

Cream together shortening (butter) and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and beat thoroughly. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into egg mixture alternately with milk. Add vanilla and beat well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes in 9 x 13 inch pan.

Almond flavoring is especially nice when this recipe is used for wedding cakes!
