WHOLE WHEAT BISCUITS
2 c. white flour
1 c. whole wheat flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 c. butter
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine flours, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar. Cut in butter, add egg, milk, stirring quickly and briefly. Knead lightly on floured board. Roll or pat gently to 1-inch thickness. Place on cookie sheet for crusty biscuits.

Bake in 450°F oven for 12-15 minutes.

Makes 20 biscuits.

Leftover biscuits are wonderful with creamed chicken, or served with bacon and eggs.

Is white flour self rising or plain? And could you use all or more wheat flour?

Hi Linda,

Unless a recipe specifically calls for self-rising flour, all purpose flour is used.
