VERNA'S YELLOW CAKE WITH
CHOCOLATE ICING
 
CAKE:

2 eggs
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. self-rising flour

ICING:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 heaping tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
1/2 stick butter

CAKE: Beat eggs and add shortening or butter. Beat well. Add milk, beating again. Add vanilla; add flour, beating again.

Pour into 3 prepared 8" pans. Layer will be thin. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until done. Ice with chocolate icing.

ICING: Cook icing until nearly soft ball stage. Beat and spread over cake. Poke holes and let hot icing run into cake layers.

Cook's Note: It's the good old gooey kind like grandma used to make.
