DUTCH COFFEE CAKE | |
3 c. flour 2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. allspice 1 c. shortening 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. milk (sweet or sour) Mix dry ingredients and shortening until crumbly. (Save 1 cup for topping.) Dissolve soda in milk and stir with wooden spoon until well blended with dry mixture. Bake in a 9"x13" pan in a 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until done. (Put saved crumbly mixture on top of cake before baking.) Good served warm or cooled. |
