YUMMY FROSTED BARS | |
A Cake-like Bar. 1/4 cup shortening (Crisco) 1/2 cup sugar 1 egg 1/4 cup dark molasses 1/4 cup dark corn syrup (Karo) 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup chopped nuts 1 cup chopped raisins or dates Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, molasses, and syrup. Blend thoroughly. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder. Mix milk and vanilla. To shortening mixture, add dry and liquid ingredients. Stir in nuts and raisins. Pour batter into greased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350°F for about 25 minutes. Cool. Spread with a thin coat of confectioners' sugar frosting. Cut into 2-inch squares. Yield: 2 dozen (2-inch) bars. |
