GINGER BARS 
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda in 4 tbsp. hot water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. molasses
1 tsp. ginger
3 1/4 c. flour

Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and molasses. Mix well. Sift dry ingredients, add alternately with soda and hot water. Spread on greased cookie sheet. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and frost. If baked longer they will get dry.
