SOFT GINGERSNAP BARS 
3/4 c. vegetable shortening
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tbsp. sugar

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 15 x 10 inch jelly roll pan. In a large saucepan, melt shortening. Cool 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients except 2 tablespoons sugar. Mix well with wooden spoon.

Press into prepared pan. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Do not overbake. Let stand 5 minutes. Cut into bars. Cool completely.
