BEAVER ISLAND CAKE 
1 c. dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. butter
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt

Chop dates and pour boiling water over them. Let cool. Cream together sugar, butter, and eggs. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, then add dates, plus 1 teaspoon vanilla. Sprinkle over batter one package chocolate chips, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 cup nuts. Bake in 9 x 12 inch pan at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Serves 12.
