Grandma Kline's Biscuits Supreme for Strawberry Shortcake

Tried this recipe last night for shortcakes, it turned out awesome. The only changes I made were (1) increase sugar to 1 Tbsp (wanted my shortcake a little sweeter); (2) used butter instead of shortening--personal preference, plus I didn't have enough shortening; (3) instead of patting/rolling the dough, I simply dropped large spoonfuls onto my cookie sheet. The dough had the consistency of oatmeal, so I'm not sure how one would roll it out--lots of flour on the rolling pin, I guess? Anyway, the shortcakes came out really good and I'll definitely be using this recipe again, whether it's for dessert or simply to make scratch biscuits for breakfast.

Stellar recipe. So much better than the heavy Bisquick biscuits. Loved them and followed recipe exactly. Flaky and light...yum!

Great recipe. I followed it exactly except I added a splash more milk and inadvertently baked the biscuits half again as long as the recipe calls for. They didn't burn, and they handle the strawberry juices wonderfully. Try it.

Just delicious....slight change, i had no cream of tartar so used white vinegar instead and with same amount and added to milk, used unsalted butter for shortening, more sugar since i wasn't sure berries were sweet enuf for dessert. Didn't roll but dropped, got 14 biscuits. Baked more like 14 min. on ungreased cookie tin.

Easy, great recipe. I used whole wheat pastry flour, and salted butter instead of shortening. Then I dropped them, instead of rolling them. My convection oven automatically lowered the temp for being convection. But 10 minutes was perfect. The buscuits were golden on the outside and flaky inside!

Upped the sugar to 1.5-2 tbsp. and threw in a few chopped strawberries before baking. :) Sooooooo yummy!!!

Closest thing I could find to the sugar biscuits served with strawberries at a local restaurant featured on "Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins".

I used 3 tbsp. of sugar instead of 2 tsp. and spooned the batter/dough onto a cookie sheet and sprinkled course sugar on top. Cooked at 425°F for about 15 min. Made about 9 biscuits 3 or 4 inches in diameter. Perfect sweetness for fresh strawberry shortcake!
