CHOCOLATE CHIPPERS 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 (6 oz.) pkg. (1 c.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 c. broken nuts

Cream shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Blend well and add chocolate and nuts. Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from sheet immediately. Makes 3 dozen.
