CANDIED TOMATOES 
3 (28 oz.) cans whole tomatoes
2 sm. onions, finely chopped
3/4 to 1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 1/4 tsp. garlic salt

Place all ingredients in a deep saucepan; boil for 30 minutes. Lower heat until mixture barely bubbles. Simmer for 7-8 hours. Bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Serve.

VARIATION: Place a portion of mixture in large buttered mushroom caps. Bake at 325 degrees for 5-7 minutes.
