MOM'S APPLE CRISP 
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. each nutmeg and cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. (1/2 stick) butter
5 c. sliced tart apples

Mix sugar, flour, spices, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

Spread apples over the bottom of a buttered 8 or 9 inch square baking pan. Sprinkle crumbled mixture over the fruit; pat lightly with fingers.

Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm with cream or ice cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
