MOM'S APPLE CRISP 
1 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. shortening

Mix together. Put 1/2 of crumbs in bottom of greased pan. Then put 4 cups apples or rhubarb on top of crumbs.

Make a syrup of 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 1 cup water and 1 cup white sugar. Cook until syrup is clear. Pour over apples. Then top with other 1/2 of crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour.
