Thanks for the recipe and cooking instructions. It's too hot on my back porch to grill bbq chicken although sometimes I will rough it while cooking chicken on charcoal and mesquite. For the bbq sauce, you can substitute maple syrup or honey instead of brown sugar if you like. I add lemon juice as mentioned above and sometimes pickled jalapeno juice too when all the jalapenos are gone from the jar...might as well use it, eh? Liquid smoke is good too as is worcestershire sauce.

This Is a good recipe. But I put one full tablespoon of sugar As the ketchup is already sweet. I added 2 peg of grated garlic and grated a small piece of ginger and some barbecue sauce. It was delicious.

I used drumsticks, and for some reason, interpreted "mustard" as dry mustard, and used it. After looking at the recipe again, I wonder if the it should have been prepared mustard. The sauce did produce a picture perfect coating on my chicken, but I have tasted better - I'd love to know if what type of mustard others used, and if prepared mustard improves the flavor. If I do make this again, I will add some minced garlic or garlic powder.

I thought this was excellent I had took some advice from previous comments. I doubled the recipe but halved the sugar and water also I added flour to make it thick also added some roasted pepper and garlic and instead of lemon juice I used vinegar (since I found myself without lemon juice) I started to paint the sauce on at 30 mins and did so every 5 mins then at 45 mins add the rest on and cooked for 15 mins

Use a tsp or so of liquid smoke....my Mom has been making this BBQ sauce for years, and everyone craves it. Even my husband who hates chicken will eat it with this BBQ sauce.

This was ok, but way too sweet, which is weird because I love sweet everything. Not sure if I would make this as is again. I did not add any water, because I wanted thick sauce. Without water, it had the consistency of Sweet Baby Ray's, and was about the same with the sweetness, just not tangy. Tried adding garlic, a dash of red chile paste, and some onion to give it more flavor but that wasn't enough. Might try it again and just add more garlic, onion, and siracha.

I made this and it was great. The only thing I added was a grated jalapeno for some spice. That will also deal with any extra sweetness :)

You can add flour to make the sauce thicker

I doubled the recipe, on all accounts except for the sugar - I halved it. My family likes it a little tangier... Very nice flavor and consistency. I also added a dash of liquid smoke and a little garlic. Yum!

Have always used the sauce as is. Family loves it. I start with the sauce a bit earlier than the recipe says to...brushing it on every 5 minutes or so, which helps it "build up" and be thicker a bit on the chicken. LOVE IT!!!!

I really liked this recipe. I cooked it with rub in a water bath. Then...I made the sauce per the recipe and poured it over. I cooked it another 30 minutes on 350°F and it was perfect. My husband loved it.

Oh my days!! I cooked this sauce in a pan and added it over grilled season chicken...best bbq sauce I have EVER tasted! I had mine with cheesy potatoes a real binge but it delivered! I also added half the sugar...but it was just right!

I also halved the brown sugar. & I assumed it would be thin so I made twice as much with a little less water. We all loved it. Still sweet. But as a sweet BBQ sauce...... It was Great!
