| NANNY'S SCRATCH CAKE | |

3 c. flour 2 1/4 c. sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 6 eggs 1/2 lb. butter 5 tbsp. shortening 2 tsp. vanilla 3/4 c. milk Mix all in a bowl and stir for 25 minutes. Bake in a greased and floured tube pan in a cold oven 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes exactly. | |

The cake was extremely moist, light and fluffy. It grew out of my pans. The box cakes never rise like this! I'd like to try it again with 1/2 a stick less butter and only 2 cups sugar. I used fresh eggs and fresh milk, which I swear make a difference. I only mixed for about 10 minutes which seemed to work perfectly fine. 1 hour 10 minutes at 350°F in a cold oven was pretty much dead on for me.
