MRS. A.'S CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. sour cream
2 1/2 c. flour
1 round tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt

Combine sugar, shortening and add egg and cocoa. Sift flour and salt, add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Sprinkle soda around on top of dough and pour boiling water over it. Beat well. Add vanilla. Bake in very slow oven at 350 degrees or less.
