VINEGAR COBBLER | |
4 c. water 2 c. sugar 1/2 c. white vinegar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 tbsp. butter Into a large baking dish or cobbler pan, put water, vinegar and 1 cup sugar. Place on low heat and let simmer while you roll out cobbler dough into thin and narrow strips. Stir in vanilla. Lay dough in pan in criss-cross layers, sprinkling remaining 1 cup of sugar on each layer as it is placed in pan. Dot each layer and top with butter. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. COBBLER DOUGH: 2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 3/4 c. shortening Cold water to make stiff dough Sift and measure flour. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together 3 times. Cut in shortening with edge of spoon then crumble with tips of fingers. Pour water in slowly while cutting again with edge of spoon. Add just enough water to make a stiff dough. Knead on floured board very lightly and for only a few seconds. Roll out and cut into strips. |
