1 pkg. frozen filo dough 2 c. butter, melted SYRUP: 2 c. sugar 1 c. water 1 tsp. lemon juice FILLING: 1/2 c. sugar 2 c. walnuts, ground 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg For syrup, cook water and sugar 10 minutes. Add lemon juice and simmer. Cool. Thaw filo dough for 2 hours. Brush 1/3 of the dough sheets with butter and place in a large pan. Combine filling ingredients and spread evenly over dough. Brush each remaining sheet of dough with butter and layer atop filling. Smooth and press dough, then cut into diamond shapes with a sharp knife. Bake for 45 minutes at 325 degrees. Pour the cool syrup over the warm pastry. Serve cold. |
