FRIED GREEN TOMATOES 
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 c. all-purpose flour
4 to 6 medium green tomatoes
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c. milk
1 c. seasoned dry bread crumbs
3 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. cooking oil

Slice tomatoes 1/2-inch thick. Combine sugar and flour. Dip both sides of tomato slices into the mixture. Combine the egg and milk. Dip each tomato slice in milk and egg, then dip in bread crumbs. Heat oil in skillet. Add butter. Fry each tomato slice until brown on both sides but firm enough to hold their shape.
