PLUM BRANDY
2 cups granulated sugar
2 pints ripe plums (16) picked over
1 quart vodka

Place the sugar in a 3-quart glass jar with a lid. Pierce the skin of each plum several times with a fork. Add the plums and the vodka and cover. Place in a dark cool place.

Each week for about 2 months open the jar and stir the brandy. Allow the brandy to mature for at least 4 months.

Strain the finished brandy through a very fine sieve into a lovely decanter. Its color is vibrant.

Makes about 1 1/2 quarts.

Note: If you time it right, the brandy will be ready for Christmas.
