DANISH APPLE PASTRY BARS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg yolk
8-10 tart apples, pared and sliced
3/4 to 1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white
1 c. confectioners sugar
3-4 tsp. milk

Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Mix well, stir into flour mixture.

On floured surface roll 1/2 the dough to 12 x 17 inch rectangle. Fit into and up sides of 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 2 inch baking pan. Spread apples to cover dough. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Roll remaining dough to 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches. Place over apples and seal edges. Cut slits i top. Beat egg whites until frothy, brush on crust. Bake 50 minutes at 375 degrees. Combine confectioners sugar and milk. Drizzle over warm pastry.
