DANISH PASTRY APPLE BARS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg, separated

GLAZE:

1 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. water or lemon juice

Mix flour, salt and shortening as for pie crust. Beat egg yolk and add enough milk to make 2/3 cups. Add to flour mixture. Divide into two parts. Roll one ball of dough to fit 10x15 cookie sheet. Do not put up sides of pan. Add a layer of cornflakes or wheaties over unbaked crust. Slice 7 or 8 apples on wheaties; sprinkle with 1 cup sugar, some cinnamon and dot with butter. Add top crust. Don't worry if it doesn't fit perfectly. Beat the egg white until foamy and spread over top crust with a pastry brush. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Drizzle top with glaze while hot.
