APPLE SPICE BARS 
2/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 c. diced, pared apples
3/4 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg and cloves. Gradually add to creamed mixture, mix well. Stir in apples, oats and walnuts. Spread batter in greased 9 x 13 x 2 inch cake pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting.

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:

1/2 stick butter
1/2 (4 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. confectioners' sugar, sifted

Cream butter and cream cheese until soft and smooth. Mix in vanilla. Add confectioners' sugar gradually, beating well. Frost cooled bars and sprinkle with colored sugar crystals. Enjoy!

I was looking for an apple spice bar recipe - I'd never made this before, and my (grown) son happened to mention that he loves them. I found this recipe and tried it. It was easy and absolutely delicious! Fabulous frosting, too!
