FRAN'S CASSEROLE 
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, browned and drained
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 (10 oz.) frozen mixed vegetables
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
1 tsp. sugar
1 (28 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
1 lg. can red kidney beans
1/2 cabbage, sliced
2 red potatoes
2-3 c. water
Pepper to taste (so salt!)

Brown meat and drain it well. While meat is cooking partially cook the frozen vegetables, cabbage and potatoes: when crisp-cooked, dice the potatoes. Combine all ingredients, add pepper to taste, and simmer for at least half an hour, or longer if you have time. The flavors blend better the longer they're together. Serves 8-10. Leftover is great to freeze.
