3 c. sugar
1/2 c. vinegar
2 tbsp. butter
2 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Boil first 4 ingredients together until mixture turns brittle when dropped into cup of cold water. Add vanilla and soda. Pour onto a buttered platter. When cool enough to handle, butter hands and pull until white and brittle.
