I worked at a restaurant that served a muff sandwich. We added capicola, mortadella and provolone. Also to the salad a little anchovy paste. Comes out real tasty !!

Their is an Italian deli I know that makes a Muff on a kieser roll with bottled muff salad, mortadella, capicola, pepperoni, ham and genova salami topped with lettuce and tomato. People rave about it

Muffaletta is actually a type of bread .. formed like a very large bun. The bread is made with black pepper and fennel seeds. It is very spicy, typically served with tuna and ricotta or sausage.... if you doubt.. come and visit me in Sicily...
