MISSIONARY CAKE | |
1 lb. raisins 2 cups boiling water 1/2 cup shortening or lard 1 cup cold water 2 cups sugar 4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted 1 tsp. ground cloves 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. baking soda dissolved in a little hot water 1 cup chopped nuts Boil raisins in 2 cups water for 10 minutes. Add shortening. When shortening is melted, add 1 cup cold water and let mixture cool. Combine sugar, flour, cloves, cinnamon and salt. Add to raisins, water and shortening. Add baking soda dissolved in water. Beat well, then add nuts. Bake for one hour in 300°F oven. Bake in funnel pan or 2 bread pans. |
