APPLE ROLLS 
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. shortening
enough milk (to make stiff dough)

Mix and chill.

Step 1:

1 stick butter
2 c. water
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Heat oven to 350°F. In a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan put butter, water, sugar and vanilla. Let this mixture get hot, stirring occasionally.

Step 2:

3 1/2 c. cubed apples
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Roll pastry into large circle. Sprinkle with apples, brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll this up as you would a jelly roll. Cut into 1 1/2-inch slices and drop into hot mixture.

Bake at 350°F until golden brown, about 1 hour. Serve warm with ice cream.
