GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 box Sweet German chocolate
1/2 c. hot water

Mix sugar, butter and egg yolks until smooth. Sift flour, salt and add to egg yolk mixture. Dissolve chocolate in hot water over low heat. Put soda into buttermilk and add the 2 mixtures to the above. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into the mixture. Use 3 (9 inch) cake pans, well greased. Pour equal amounts of batter into each pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. Remove from pans and allow to cool.

ICING:

1 c. evaporated milk
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
3 egg yolks
1 c. coconut, fine shred
1 c. nuts, chopped

Melt milk, sugar and butter over low heat. Add egg yolks and cook for 5 to 8 minutes until mixture thickens. Add coconut and nuts. Spread between layers of cake and on top. This makes a very large cake.
