GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
4 egg yolks
1 pkg. German chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water, dissolve chocolate in water
Pinch of salt
1 c. buttermilk combined with 1 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 c. flour
4 egg whites, beat stiff & fold in
1 tsp. vanilla

ICING:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. Pet milk
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 pkg. coconut
1 c. pecans
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg yolks and mix. Dissolve chocolate in boiling water and add to mixture. Put soda in milk. Add flour and buttermilk mixture; mix well. Fold in egg whites and add vanilla. Pour into 3 (9") greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Do not over bake. Cool and remove from cake pans. Combine ingredients for icing, cook until thick and spread on cake.
