OLD-FASHIONED APPLE CAKE WITH
LEMON SAUCE
 
Everyone loves this dessert! Try it with golden delicious apples.

3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups chopped apples
1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Grease and flour a 9x13-inch cake pan. Mix all ingredients together except apples and nuts. Add the apples and nuts. Batter will be thick. Pour into pan.

Bake at 375°F for 50 minutes or until crust is golden. Serve with warm lemon sauce.

LEMON SAUCE:

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1 egg, well beaten
3 tsp. lemon juice
grated rind of 1 lemon

Cook all ingredients in saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, just until mixture comes to a boil. Serve warm over apple cake.
