SILK FREE MICROWAVED CORN ON THE
COB

Fresh corn on the cob with shucks and silks

Here is a great way to cook fresh corn on the cob without the hassle of picking out the silks.

1 ear=4 minutes
2 ears=8 minutes

Note: Timing depends on the wattage of your microwave and the size and age of the corn.

Place raw corn, with the shucks and silk still on, into the microwave. Do not wrap it in anything. Microwave on high. Remove with oven mitt on each hand.

Place corn on cutting surface and cut off the stem end at the place where the kernels begin. Then grab the end with the protruding silks and shake until the corn pops out.

You will have a perfectly cooked ear of delicious corn, silk free, waiting for some melting butter!

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Brilliant recipe...worked a treat! It's the first time I've done cobs bought fresh; they were the same price and much better value than chilled ones. I have a 1000w microwave and cooked the 2 for 7 minutes....followed the presentation instructions and hey presto! Will definitely follow this again!

Just tried this and it worked perfectly. My only suggestion is to pull the silks right away. The first cob worked, but I delayed on the second while I ate. The second cob had cooled considerably when I removed the silks, and they were more difficult to remove. Still, a significant improvement over heating up the house boiling water for corn. Also, I have an 1100w microwave, so cooked 2 cobs for 7 minutes as noted in Simon's review.

Awesome! 4 minutes, sliced off the stem, shook out the cob and voila! A clean, ready-to-eat corn on the cob.

Did one ear... absolutely delicious! I did cook it two minutes on first side... then flipped to other side for ONE minute only. Let cool about 7-8 minutes. Was cooked - but still had a tiny little bit of "crunch". This is the ONLY way I will every prepare corn in the future. Yummmm!
