1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 c. raisins
2 c. oatmeal
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. vanilla

Pour boiling water over raisins; let sit 5 minutes. In another bowl cream shortening, sugar, then eggs. Add oatmeal to raisins and water. Add creamed mixture and vanilla. Then add flour to which the spices, soda and salt have been mixed. Bake in moderate oven until lightly browned.
