MOM'S APPLE COBBLER 
1/2 stick butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
2 c. chopped apples
1 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. In saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour and add milk and stir with fork until dough leaves side of bowl. Turn onto floured board and knead until smooth. Roll into large rectangle 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle apples evenly over dough and sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up like jelly roll and seal edges.

Slice into 16 slices and put in dish with melted butter. Pour sugar syrup around rolls. Bake 55 to 60 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese. Other fruit may be substituted.
