PLAIN OR FILLED DEWEY BUNS 
BUNS:

1 1/2 pt. lukewarm water
1/2 c. lard
1 c. sugar
1 pkg. yeast
1 tbsp. salt
8 c. approx. flour

FILLING:

1 egg white, beaten
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. milk
2 c. 10X sugar
1/2 c. shortening

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Add salt, sugar and shortening. Work enough flour to knead dough without sticking. Place in covered bowl, let rise until doubled in bulk. Roll dough on board to 1/2 inch thick; cut into strips 3/4 inch wide x 3 inch long. Place strips on greased sheets. Brush with melted shortening, let rise until light. Fry in deep fat as doughnuts (365 degrees).

Filling: Mix egg white, vanilla, flour, milk and 1 cup 10X sugar. Then add 1 cup 10X sugar and shortening. Mix to a paste. Cut buns on one side. Put filling inside, roll in 10X sugar.
