DATE NUT CAKE 
1 c. dates
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda

Cut up dates and add boiling water; set aside. Cream butter, brown sugar and egg. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and soda. Mix dry ingredients with creamed ingredients. Add date mixture and 1/2 cup nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

NOTE: I added 1/2 teaspoon cloves and nutmeg and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
