MAMA'S ORANGE-DATE-NUT CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. cake flour
1 box dates
1 c. chopped nuts
Rind of 1 orange
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda

FILLING:

1 c. sugar
Rind of 1 orange
Juice of 1 orange

Beat together the sugar, butter and eggs. Add flour that has been sifted with soda and baking powder, alternately with milk. Add cut up dates (mixed with enough flour to keep from sticking together), nuts and rind of 1 orange. Mix thoroughly, but not too much.

Pour in greased baking pan approximately 9"x14"x2"; bake in medium oven, 350 to 375 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until done. Place pan of water in oven on rack below cake. Just before cake is done, mix all filling ingredients and have ready to pour on hot cake as soon as it comes from oven. Cake should be left in pan. Serve with whipped cream on each square.
