SHORTBREAD 
1 c. butter (1/2 lb.)
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour or more

Cream butter, add sugar gradually and cream together thoroughly. Add flour slowly, when a stiff dough is formed turn out on a floured board; gradually knead in flour until the dough begins to crack. Roll out 1/4 inch thick; cut in fancy shapes (use cookie cutter as desired). Place on UNGREASED baking sheet. Place in 325 degree oven. Bake until lightly browned.
