BASIC ITALIAN SAUCE 
1 med. onion, chopped
2 tbsp. cooking oil
1/2 tsp. instant garlic powder (optional)
2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
2/3 c. water
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
Salt & pepper

Place onion, oil and garlic in a 3 quart casserole. Cook on 100% power for 3 to 4 minutes until onion is tender. Add remaining ingredients, stirring well after each addition. Cook covered on 100% power for 12 to 14 minutes. Stir halfway through the cooking time. Makes 2 quarts.
