HOMEMADE CLAY ORNAMENTS | |
1 c. cornstarch 1 (1 lb.) box baking soda 1 1/2 c. water 1/3 c. cinnamon In large saucepan, mix together cornstarch, baking soda, and gradually add the water. Cook over low heat, stir occasionally. The mixture will get bubbly, then thicken. Stir constantly until mixture forms a ball. Remove from heat and turn clay onto plastic wrap or foil. It will thicken more after being removed from the heat. it will be cool enough to handle within a few minutes. Knead in the ground cinnamon. To make ornaments, tape waxed paper to work surface. Roll out clay about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutter to make shapes. Poke a hole for a hanger with toothpick. The ornaments may take from a few hours to a day to air dry. To speed up drying, place the ornaments on a baking sheet in a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes. Shut off oven and let cool for one hour. Continue air drying until ornaments harden. Refrigerate or freeze unused clay. Thaw at room temperature and then knead. |
