2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
3/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, salt; sift together 3 times. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, beat very thoroughly. Add flour mixture alternately with milk with a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla. Bake in greased and floured 9x9x2 moderate oven (350 degrees) 35 minutes.
