GRANDCHILDREN'S CHOICE ROLLS 
2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 pkgs. active dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
7 to 8 c. flour

Scald milk; stir in sugar, salt and shortening, cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast to milk mixture. Add baking powder, soda and half of the flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough. Beat hard for several minutes. Cover and let rise until double (about 1 hour). Punch down and shape into rolls. Let rise until double (30 to 45 minutes). Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
