PINTO BEANS 
1 lb. pkg. pinto beans
1 c. diced bacon
1 chopped onion
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 lg. can tomatoes
3/4 c. green pepper
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. cumin
2 tsp. chili powder or to taste
Dash of red pepper

Wash beans, cover with water and soak overnight. Do not drain. Add salt, onion, bacon and black pepper. Cook covered over low heat 1 to 2 hours. Add tomatoes, green pepper, sugar, cumin, chili powder and red pepper. Cook covered for another 1 to 2 hours.

One or two cloves of garlic may be added with onion, bacon and spices.
