BREAD PUDDING | |
8 slices stale white bread buttered with 4 tbsp. butter 4 eggs, slightly beaten 1/2 tsp. salt 2/3 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 pt. scalded milk 1/2 box golden raisins 2 sm. apples, peeled, cored & diced Butter the bread on one side, then stack and cut into cubes. Brush a 3 quart baking dish with butter. Put bread cubes, apples and raisins into the dish. Beat the eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla together in a bowl. Slowly stir in the scalded milk (can be scalded in microwave instead of stove top to prevent scorching). Pour the mixture over the bread cubes. Let stand 10 minutes. Set the baking dish into a pan of hot water and place in middle of oven. Bake at 350 degrees until pudding is set and knife comes out almost clean, about 40-50 minutes. Remove from pan of water and place on rack to cool slightly before serving. |
