RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tbsp. brown vinegar

Cream Crisco, sugar, eggs. Sift dry ingredients several times. Mix dry ingredients alternately with red food coloring and buttermilk. Dissolve soda in vinegar; add vanilla and fold this in batter. Put in layer pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. milk

Boil until thick, then cool.

Cream: 1 c. powdered sugar 1 stick butter 1/2 c. Crisco
