LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE BREAD | |
2 c. boiling water 1 c. quick Quaker Oats 1/3 c. butter 1 egg 1/2 c. dark molasses 2 scant tsp. salt 2 pkg. Fleisch active dry yeast 5 1/2 c. flour Combine water, oats, butter, egg, molasses, and salt. Mix well; let cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add to mixture, stir in flour and make a stiff dough. Knead well on floured board. Place in greased bowl, cover with cloth. Set aside for 2 hours. Punch down, divide in half and shape into loaves 8 1/2 x 4 1/2. Let rise until double. Brush top with melted butter. Bake at 375 degrees oven for 1 hour. |
