NUTTY WAFER LOGS 
1 c. butter
1 egg yolk
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. walnuts, chopped

Beat together butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add flour, beating until blended. Divide dough into 2 equal portions. Shape each portion into a 1 inch diameter log. Roll each log in chopped nuts. Wrap and refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours. To bake, cut chilled dough into 1/4 inch slices. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Press a red cherry into the top of each cookie. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until bottoms are golden. Yield: 5 to 6 dozen.
