FRUIT CAKE 
2 lbs. dates
1 lg. bottle maraschino cherries
1 lb. walnuts, chopped
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 lb. whole Brazil nuts
1/2 c. cherry juice
1 tsp. salt
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. melted shortening

Mix as you would a cake, adding nuts and fruit last. Bake in loaf pan at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Yield: 3 cakes. Cool, wrap in a wine soaked cloth. Keep cloth moist until use.
