FRENCH CABBAGE SOUP 
2 tsp. vegetable oil
3 c. shredded green cabbage
1/8 tsp. minced garlic
1/2 c. carrot, sliced
1 tsp. brown sugar
1 bay leaf
1 c. onion, sliced
1 1/2 c. beef broth
1 c. water
1/2 c. tomato puree
1 whole clove
8 oz. cooked potato, diced

In medium saucepan, heat oil. Add cabbage, onions and garlic. Cook, stirring often, until cabbage is soft, about 10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients except potato. Cook over low heat 20 minutes. Add potato and cook until heated. Remove and discard clove and bay leaf before serving. Serves 4.
